In order to read this story, you must know what a hologram is. Before reading, you might want to refresh your memory here: Holograms.
At a very young age, Abby knew she was going to change the world. She was the smartest kid in every single class and had perfect grades. Excelling in every elementary and middle school class possible, she skipped 2 grades and attended a private technology school for high school. She was always drawn to science and math and that is why she specifically knew she wanted to attend BioTech High School in Central New Jersey. Surprisingly, she struggled a bit in her history classes. She would try so hard to grasp the information that was given to her, but it was hard for her to process because she was such a visual learner. She would always imagine the scenes of war and fighting in her head, attempting to grasp what her textbook was explaining to her. It was the year 2029, Abby, now a sophomore in high school, when she had an idea that clicked in her head to help her understand the material she was learning about the Revolutionary War. Using her talented math and science skills, she wanted to attempt to build a type of technology that would create a hologram and show scenes from a specific time period. For example, a hologram that could specifically show scenes from the Revolutionary War that she was learning about in history class as if it were a movie. This small idea from just a young girl in high school, would soon change the world as we know it, for the better.
Abby’s first goal was to contact one of her teachers who was a technology whiz, just like her. His classroom consisted of 3D printers, endless amounts of never before seen computers, tvs, tablets, etc., that he made himself. She knew Mr. Endi was the perfect person to ask for help. She quickly explained to him her idea of potential holograms to better teach students. Mr. Endi was enthusiastic about the idea and explained that he has thought about it many times, but never had the opportunity to actually make it work. He explained that it would be extremely time-consuming and almost impossible. She was relentless and continued to beg for him to help out with the idea. She was determined to make it work and she knew exactly what to do in order for her dreams to come true.
From that day on, November 17, 2030, Abby worked extra hours after school to fulfill her dream. It definitely was not an easy task and it took way longer than expected. Every single morning, Abby would arrive at school 2 hours earlier than she was supposed to and work in Mr. Endi’s office. After 2 hours passed by, she would go about her normal day of classes and extracurricular activities. Once she was done with her day, she would head back up to Mr. Endi’s office and continue where she left off. Oftentimes she and Mr. Endi would even eat dinner together because they were working on this project so late. On the weekends, she would take what she learned from Mr. Endi throughout the week and put in more work in the garage of her house. She thought it would take weeks, then months, and then soon she realized it would have to take a few years to finish this grueling project. But still, she never gave up. Although there were days where she thought about giving up and calling it quits, she knew she would never forgive herself. She wanted to be known as the teenage girl who made a difference in the world by creating a never-before-seen technology. But not only that, she wanted this because of how well it would affect her learning in the future.
2 years later, Abby, now a senior in high school, finally reached her goal of creating the first ever portable hologram device. After many trials and tribulations, the device was finally set in stone. Basically, the device was very small, much smaller than any iPhone, and all it contained was a touch screen search bar. There was no social media on it, no photos, no camera, no games. Its one and only purpose was to play a hologram from a particular scene that one searches from the search bar.
For example, going back in time to Abby’s Revolutionary War subject in sophomore year of high school, all she would have to do is type in “Revolutionary War” and a list of several different battles, along with their dates, would come up and she would simply touch the certain battle/date she was looking for, and a three dimensional image formed by the interface of light beams from a laser would play from the device. This device was now known as the “iPlay.”
Announced in December 2030, the iPlay was introduced by Abigail Roberts as a search engine hologram device, a revolutionary learning tool and a breakthrough Internet image/video generator. Abby and Mr. Endi enjoyed all their accolades, which were well deserved. They attended tons of conferences, award presentations, and even got invited to the White House. Within the first year of the creation of the iPlay, it quickly changed the world.
First, the iPlay completely changed the education system for the better. Before this creation, there was no such thing as “google images.” This made it extremely difficult for teachers to show their students images of what they were learning. The only pictures they had were textbook images or drawings. Once the iPlay device came into play, teachers all over the world were extremely enthusiastic about it. Once one classroom saw success with it, every teacher in the world made the purchase of keeping them in the classroom. Students' grades skyrocketed and it genuinely helped them to absorb the content that was being taught.
Possibly the biggest impact the iPlay had on society was on doctors and surgeons. Doctors found this to be extremely beneficial because if someone came in with an ankle injury, the doctor could use the search engine on his iPlay to look up the patient's name, and they could playback the video of he/she falling and getting hurt via hologram. This would allow them to truly see what happened to the ankle and how it can be treated. Better yet, it made an everlasting effect on surgeons because they were able to use the holograms to watch certain surgeries that occurred in the past and examine in great detail the step by step process. It forever changed the way the healthcare industry worked and saved the lives of millions.
Every person in the world was granted an “iPlay” and it made for a more perfect life. Everyone was happier and less stressed. If they forgot something, all they had to do was look back on their “iPlay” and basically rewatch what they forgot. Everyone’s loved ones and friends got less sick/chronic illnesses decreased because of how well this device worked. The world was a better, more perfect place, all thanks to a young girl who had a dream and a teacher who believed in her.
